Even though travelling through many spectacular and sometimes remote locations, Compass Expeditions caters to the motorcycle tech enthusiast. Their fleet of BMW motorcycles all have the 12 volt BMW power adaptor or the guides will run a lead directly from the batteries (common with heated clothing, just bring your own lead). Clients travel with the latest in smartphones, video recording equipment, cameras, laptops, trackers and tablets. So you can charge your gadgets as you ride and connect to the internet in the hotel or restaurant in the evening and share your adventure with family and friends as you go.
In late February 2020, shortly after devastating fires in close proximity to planned route the threatened its cancellation, I went on Compass Expeditions’ Tasmania and the High Country With Charley Boorman tour. It was a great experience. Charley and his good mate Billy Ward were excellent tour leaders and the Compass Expeditions support crew ensured a good time was had by all. After the fires were extinguished, the world faced a new crisis as the Covid -19 pandemic quickly spread throughout the world. Travel operators were badly affected by the sudden end of global travel. A couple of months after arriving back in BrisVegas after the Tasmania and the High Country tour, Compass Expeditions announced they were closing down.
