Good news everyone – I finally have my licence back. Hooray!!!
Yes indeed. I’m on the road again. So take it away Willie please …
“On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get on the road again”

What? You didn’t even know I’d lost it. Here’s the story so far should you wish to familiarise yourself with this saga.
Officially, my licence was again valid effective 23 August 2014 – but there’s a catch. It’s only valid for one year – because I have a medical condition that may effect my fitness to drive – so I have to reapply again at some stage in the three month period prior prior to expiry. Hopefully this should be pretty procedural this time. My next scan results will be known on 28 May, and fingers crossed, if all is clear, I’ll be submitting the forms to the DVLA within a day or two of receiving them – the sooner the better so as to give them as much time as possible for the wheels to turn.
I’m not sure of the date of my last ride before my seizure but the period from that fateful day to when I got my beloved Family Truckster back from storage was in excess of twenty nine months, or to be more precise:
- 2 years, 5 months, 10 days; or
- 893 days; or
- 21,432 hours; or
- 1,285,920 minutes; or
- 77,155,200 seconds.
But who was counting? I can tell you I was and some days it felt like an eternity. To stay preoccupied, I managed to fit in a few more overseas excursions in 2014 in the period to the return of my licence. Here’s where I managed to travel other than on a motorcycle in 2014:
Peru – Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu (mid March 2014)
Switzerland – skiing in Davos (late March 2014)
Turkey – Istanbul and Gallipoli (late April to early May 2014)
Tanzania – Dar es Salaam (early July 2014)
Mauritius (mid July to early September 2014)
Tanzania – Dar es Salaam (mid September 2014)
South Africa – Wilderness, Southern Cape (late November to early December 2014)
But enough travelling my more traditional means, time for me to start planning my next motorcycle tour. Now, where should I go and how soon can I start?
